If you are looking for the ultimate in luxury clothing, pure cashmere is where it is at. Most people don't realize that a lot of clothing and scarves that are advertised as cashmere may only be about 50 percent or less of cashmere material. The rest of the material is cotton or another knit.
I recently went to a local department store and saw a black cashmere cardigan sweater on sale for less than $50, which is a complete steal. But when I looked at the tag on the sweater I noticed that it was only made with 15 percent cashmere material, which means this was basically a knit sweater and wasn't real cashmere. I passed on the sweater because there is nothing better than pure cashmere.
If you want pure cashmere, which is at least 90 percent or more of cashmere, here are some tips for finding these types of clothes.
The first thing you should do is to look at the label on the article of clothing. Most labels will tell you what the percentage of cashmere that is used on the clothing. If it doesn't say the percentage then look to see if other materials are listed on the label. If there are no other materials listed, then the item should be pure cashmere. If there are other materials listed on the label then it is most likely not pure cashmere but a cashmere blend.
Cashmere is not shiny at all. If the clothing shines at all, it is most likely cashmere mixed with a silk material. Some people think that pure cashmere should be shiny, but this is actually the opposite as pure cashmere is not shiny at all.
Lastly, rub the article of clothing against your neck or under your chin as this is one of the most sensitive parts of your body. If the material is at all itchy then it is not cashmere but mostly a wool cashmere blend. Pure cashmere is not itchy at all, but is super soft and won't have hard fibers that itch.
If you are buying cashmere online, then don't be afraid to contact the company to ask if the clothing is pure cashmere. Any reputable company should be able to tell you the exact blend that is used for their clothing. Also, make sure the company has a return policy just in case you find that the sweater or scarf you order is not all cashmere.
