"The consumer is king" and will benefit from the global economic recession as luxury houses rethink their business strategy, writes Tina Gaudoin, editor-in-chief of WSJ.
The Wall Street Journal's glossy magazine, which is set to hit newsstands in the U.S. on Sept. 12 and Sept. 11 in Europe and Asia. "Luxury goods houses will have to rethink the way they appeal to us, the consumers, in order to survive…which ultimately means greater value, superior products and a better deal," writes Ms. Gaudoin in her cover story, "Changed State of Luxury." The magazine explores the recalibration of luxury focusing on diamonds, luxury cars, top-end real estate, accessories and travel. "Luxury is still a big business — $175 billion big — and all of us have contemplated abstinence in the past year, at least where purchasing is concerned," she added.

Today Bentley Motors celebrates its 90th anniversary. Founded by W.O. Bentley in 1919, the first production car was delivered in September 1921. During the 1920's Bentley produced an array of iconic motor cars. A British company, Holder's Vehicle Contracts has obtained, and is renting out by the day, the worlds most expensive car , a Bugatti Veyron. According to their website: The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (408 km/h or 254 mph).

The Kuwaiti owner of Aston Martin, Investment Dar Co is disposing of assets to help reduce its financial obligations as the credit crunch takes it's toll on the automotive industry, but, Chief Executive Officer Ulrich Bez said he doesn’t expect the luxury carmaker to be sold.

Can superfluous high-tech gadgetry help Ford's revitalization? Apparently they think so. It plans to introduce a self-parking facility on two Lincoln models this year. If you were worried that the American car industry was going to get itself out of trouble by producing innovative new cars that met the demand for greener, more environmentally friendly vehicles, you can relax. Ford's latest gadget blows that right out of the water. Apparently Ford think Americans are "too dumb to learn how to park a car" and need a gadget to do it for them.

The DBS and DB9 won the readers' vote of the renowned automobile magazine auto motor und sport coming first in the category of "Sports Cars – Imported." The prestigious prize, awarded to Aston Martin for the 2nd year running, confirms once again the deserved place in the rankings. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage, also proved to be popular with sports car fans, receiving second place in the same category.

The Sir Stirling Moss limited edition McLaren SLR. So limited, in fact, that you will only be allowed to buy one of these €750,000 monsters if you already own the "standard," SLR. Only 75 will be made.
